Version A of the Responsible Products Guidelines responded to trends and criteria that were set as part of the 2018 Future Focus program and were released on the GBCA website in November 2024. Version A of the Guidelines set a benchmark for industry for the period up to its release.

Since then, GBCA have been developing a future facing set of guidelines to recognise product certification initiatives responding to changes since the establishment of the Guidelines 5 years ago. Version B of the guidelines addresses:

•    The growing variety of product certification initiatives
•    Priorities and frameworks that have emerged since the guidelines were first developed
•    The need to rebalance framework incentives based on consultation with these initiatives
•    Aligning governance requirements to best practice standards
