1.00pm     A look at the key sustainability consideration for adaptive reuse

This session will look at some of the key considerations from a sustainability angle for reuse over demolition.  It will explore the benefits as well as touching on some of the challenges that might need to be considered.  This session will help you push the value proposition for reuse to your wider teams.   This session will explore the learning outcomes from 77 Market St project – a refurbishment of a heritage podium.

  • Embodied carbon reduction
  • Waste
  • Circular economy

1.30pm     Electrofit your Retrofit – lessons in degasification

  • Motivations for electrofits; reduced greenhouse gas emissions, going 100% renewable, reducing costs, tenant demands.
  • Available Technologies; AC systems 101, heat pumps, 4 pipe chillers, thermal storage, coils, refrigerants.
  • Challenges with maximum electrical demand, storage recharge, ambient temperature effects, heat transfer in coils, weight of heat pumps, spatial requirements.
  • Innovative solutions – share some of the best designs we’ve created and seen over the last few years

In smaller groups, you will have the opportunity to share your experience and learn from others on some of the barriers and how they have been overcome on various projects.

Key points to discuss:

  • What are the biggest challenges you’ve encountered—technical, financial, cultural or regulatory and how were they overcome?
  • What has helped build a strong case for reuse in your projects and is it client driven?

2.40pm     CASE STUDY: The case for carbon reduction – 73 Miller St, Sydney

This session will explore some of the embodied carbon outcomes and lessons learned on the 73 Miller Street project. It will look at how embodied carbon was measured and the overall saving and reduction.

Learn how community consultation guided adaptive reuse in the restoration of Bondi Pavillion

This session will focus on the innovative construction methods used in Quay Quarter Tower in Sydney as well as referencing learnings from successful projects in the UK and Denmark.
