Frankston City Council is a local government authority in Victoria committed to climate action and sustainability in the natural and built environment. In 2020, Council adopted its ESD Standards for Council Buildings Policy to establish environmentally sustainable design (ESD) standards for Council buildings beyond the minimum requirements. Since 2008, Council has committed to an ambitious carbon neutral target by 2025 for its operations. Council introduced ESD assessments for private building developments as part of the planning permit process in 2022, and is now pursuing a planning scheme amendment with 23 other Victorian councils to elevate sustainability requirements and move towards net zero carbon development. As a proud member of the Green Building Council of Australia since 2019, Council continues to work with industry, community and other councils to support and promote sustainable buildings and communities.
