This course equips industry professionals with the knowledge and practical skills to apply the Green Star Fitouts rating tool and support successful certification outcomes.

Replaced every 5–7 years, interiors are one of the most frequently changed and least examined parts of a building. Each cycle shapes carbon, waste, health, cost and brand outcomes — often unseen, yet repeated again and again. For a long time, these impacts sat outside the spotlight. But as expectations rise around circularity, climate performance and healthier interiors, these once-hidden impacts can no longer be overlooked.

Green Star Fitouts provides a practical way forward.

In this course participants will explore:
•    best practice sustainability initiatives for fitouts
•    the structure and requirements of the rating tool
•    the Green Star certification process from registration to certification
•    the role and value of a Green Star Accredited Professional (GSAP)
•    applying Green Star Fitouts in practice

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1.    Understand the structure, terminology, and key requirements of the Green Star Fitouts rating tool
2.    Navigate the Green Star certification process, including the registration, submission, and certification stages
3.    Apply Green Star requirements across project phases, using a fitout project example
4.    Respond effectively to technical requirements, including the use of guidance materials and technical support
5.    Support project teams in developing a Green Star certification strategy, including timelines and responsibilities

FAQs
•    Do I have to complete the Green Star Fitouts advanced training? If you are planning to work on a Green Star Fitouts project, we strongly recommend that you become accredited in the Green Star Fitouts rating tool to be better equipped in leading and working on Green Star Fitouts projects.
•    How is Green Star – Interiors different from Green Star Fitouts advanced training? Green Star Fitouts is a significant overhaul of our interiors rating tool. There are new categories, minimum expectations, credits and more. Our updated Green Star advanced training reflects these changes.
•    I am targeting the Green Star Accredited Professional criteria under the Industry Development credit for a Green Star Fitouts project. Do I need to also become accredited in the Fitouts tool if I am already accredited under the Green Star – Interiors tool? Yes, you will be required to complete both the Green Star Fitouts advanced course followed by the GSAP Fitouts exam in order to meet the criteria.
•    When must new projects register under Green Star Fitouts? From 1 October 2026, all new fitout projects seeking certification must register under Green Star Fitouts. Projects can register from 18 March 2026. During the transition period, new projects can register under either Green Star – Interiors or Green Star Fitouts. Green Star – Interiors will remain available for new registrations until end of September 2026.

Refrigerants have long been considered a small part of a building’s total emissions.  But the reality is that the decision of which refrigerants system one installs, and the refrigerants they use, can have a big impact on a building over decades.
In 2025, GBCA launched a discussion paper, Freeze Frame: Refrigerants as long-term building infrastructure, highlighting the important role of refrigerants in reducing emissions and improving building performance.
This refrigerant bank is projected to grow to 80,000 tonnes by 2036. At the same time, modelling shows demand for new refrigerants will outstrip supply, with a threefold shortfall projected by 2036 under the current phase-down.  But how do you get up to speed in this area?
Refrigerants are a critical but often overlooked piece of the climate puzzle, with every building relying on refrigerants, yet they’re rarely factored into long-term planning.   With out planning, we risk higher retrofit costs, supply shortages and emissions that could have been avoided. The refrigerant choices we make now will shape building performance for decades to come.

Join us for this workshop as we explore the key areas of challenge and what the possible solutions might be.     Hear insights and lessons from case studies and key experts in the field.  And examine how you can prepare for the future of refrigerants.

Australia’s natural systems are in peril. From land clearing and ecosystem degradation to erosion and sedimentation, by its very nature this industry is a key contributor to nature loss, but it’s also critical lever for change.  The Green Building Council of Australia has released a new nature roadmap for the built environment, setting out clear targets and timeframes to help the built environment protect, restore and regenerate nature.  This nature roadmap for new developments was created to in response to years of growing national and global momentum toward nature-positive action.

Please join us in this webinar as we explore the roadmap, the key targets, timescale and actions needed to facilitate industry adoption.

Speakers:

Elham Monavari, Head of Green Star Strategic Delivery, Green Building Council of Australia

Rebecca Pettit, Manager Strategic Projects, Green Building Council of Australia

Join us for the official launch of Green Star Fitouts – GBCA’s new rating tool for the sustainable design and construction of fitouts.

Replaced every 5–7 years, fitouts are one of the most frequently updated, and least examined, elements of the built environment. Each cycle influences embodied carbon, waste, health and cost outcomes, yet these impacts are often overlooked or treated as short-term decisions.

Developed in response to growing industry focus on embodied carbon, circularity and healthier interiors, Green Star Fitouts provides a clear, practical framework to guide more sustainable fitout decisions across projects and portfolios. Importantly, it is the first rating tool to embed circularity as a core requirement for fitouts – setting a new benchmark for how interior projects are designed and delivered.

In this webinar, we’ll cover:

  • Why fitouts are a critical sustainability issue that can no longer be overlooked

  • An overview of the new categories, including the world-first Circular category

  • How the rating tool works, including key Minimum Expectations

  • Key registration details and transition timeframes

  • You’ll also have the opportunity to hear directly from the team behind the tool, ask questions, and gain insights from industry representatives who have tested Green Star Fitouts to date.

Speakers:

  • Kylie Fleury, General Manager – Forever Fitout, Dexus

  • Paul Stoller, Director, Atelier Ten

  • Sian Willmott, Sustainable Design Leader, Hassell

  • Taryn Cornell, Senior Manager, Strategy & Development, Green Building Council of Australia

  • Gabrielle Pavicic, Green Star Program Lead, Green Building Council of Australia

We will have our first Advanced training course on the new Fitsouts tools on the 28th May.  It will be open for more information and bookings shortly, but contact education@gbca.org.au to register your interest.
