Building on our Responsible Products webinar, this series is designed to deep dive into some of the most important challenges product manufacturers face.  We know that the shift to more responsible products can’t be achieved alone, so these sessions are aimed at connecting the sector to help organisations ask and answer questions and share experiences and resources to make it easier.

Session 2: Environmental Product Declaration

EPDs are increasingly important, providing crucial insights for manufacturers and specifiers. Steve Mitchell from EPD Australasia & Laura Guccione from Bluescope will demystify EPDs and answer audience questions, fostering peer learning.

Other sessions in the series:

  • Session 1: Product Certification

  • Session 3: Avoiding Greenwashing

  • Session 4: Communicating Responsible Product Benefits

  • Session 5: Responsible Product Guidelines

Shane Esmore, Umow Lai Director and Principal Sustainability Consultant shares insights from a global study tour researching world leading high performance buildings.

The world is facing a climate emergency that will require innovative solutions with buildings needing to take a leading role. So the need for innovation to improve the performance of our buildings is now greater than ever.

In late 2018, Shane Esmore embarked on a Global Study tour. The purpose of this Global Study tour was to gain a better understanding of how the rest of the world is meeting the climate challenge through high performance building design, innovative building technology and consulting approaches.

In this webinar, Shane Esmore will share his experiences from this study tour that included over 80 high performance buildings and technologies in 20 cities and 10 countries over 27 days. The presentation covers a range of innovative projects which are championing innovation and sustainable performance through their design, construction and operation. Shane shared his insights into design trends including passive house, dynamic facades, demand response, HVAC Systems, Solar PV, and low carbon building materials amongst others.

Green Building Council of Australia is developing a Nature Roadmap to direct the built environment sector towards generating places that actively contribute to the protection and enhancement of nature and biodiversity.

In March 2024, we began this important conversation with the launch of our first Discussion paper: A Nature Roadmap for the Built Environment which evaluates environmental risks and opportunities, explores innovative concepts for nature regeneration, and underscores the collaborative roles required for success. Now, we have released a companion piece specifically for the supply chain. This discussion paper seeks feedback from manufacturers, suppliers and certification schemes for building materials and products within the built environment.

Join this webinar as we explore:

  • International frameworks and national legislation relevant to nature.

  • Implications for the supply chain

  • Nature and Green Star’s Responsible Product Guidelines

  • The role of certification initiatives

Reducing embodied carbon is one of the biggest challenges facing the built environment sector. But as we move towards net zero goals, how do we consider the carbon cost on a project from the outset?

Join us for this webinar in which we tackle carbon budgets and the challenges of costing lowered embodied carbon into projects. We examine the latest work on measuring embodied carbon, gaining quality data and what impacts this has, through a series of short presentations and robust discussion.

Our panel includes:

  • James Elks, Head of Product Development, NABERS

  • Nicole Sullivan, Impact Director, thinkstep-anz

  • Tom Dean, Director Carbon Planning, Slattery Australia

  • Taryn Cornell, Senior Manager for Green Star Strategy and Development, Green Building Council of Australia

Future design plans need to consider how buildings and places are used and inhabited by all. From gendered spaces to neurodivergent design thinking, this breakout will look at strategies we can employ to create spaces built for equitable usage.

  • Sensory design solutions
Magda Mostafa, Associate Chair, Department of Architecture Professor of Design, The American University in Cairo

Australia and Hong Kong are two Asia Pacific regions with divergent building characteristics but they share a common goal of striving for a low-carbon future in the building construction and real estate sector.

Australia leads the world in real estate sustainability, with their property companies topping the results of the GRESB Real Estate Assessment ranking for 11 consecutive years.  In GRESB, Hong Kong’s companies are also frequently named global leaders in the “Mixed Use” sector as the city is famous for its mega-sized multi-function developments.

To foster cross-regional exchange of knowledge and best practices, Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) and Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) are delighted to hold this joint webinar in which we share with the audience the key characteristics of the two regions’ green building markets, the latest developments in their green building rating tools as well as the upcoming challenges.

Join us to hear from the two councils’ speakers:

  • Mr Jeff Oatman, Head of Collaboration and Membership at GBCA
  • Ir Dr Eddy Lau, Head of Green Labelling at HKGBC

Data is a powerful tool with which to improve property operations. By harnessing technology and innovation, the performance and value of property can be improved.   But with challenges around maintaining access and uniformity of data, how do you achieve consistent, usable insights and have significant impact?  How do use these insights to drive more informed decision making across both management on site and reporting?

Join our panel of experts as they share case studies and examples of how they have leveraged data effectively:

  • Emma Baird, Associate Director – ESG Consultancy, CBRE
  • Julian Loh, Sustainability Manager, QIC
  • Howie Mann, VP Product, CIM
  • Helen Bell, Research Manager, GBCA

This session offers an overview of proposed changes to the next edition of the National Construction Code.

The National Construction Code sets the minimum required level for the safety, health, amenity, accessibility and sustainability of buildings. Between 1 May and 1 July, the Australian Building Codes Board will be seeking public comments on the proposed changes.

The proposed changes include an increase in the stringency of Section J, which deals with energy efficiency
