This webinar features industry case studies and discusses how the National Construction Code 2019 will support improved energy efficiency in buildings and air tightness.
Through insights from projects the presenters will discuss integrated design and digital tools, thermal bridging, construction techniques and air tightness testing.
After the presentations, the panel session will provide an opportunity to highlight some of the ongoing challenges the industry is facing as well as the positive changes currently happening.
Key topics to be covered includes:
- How air tightness can be achieved and how to meet the NCC 2019 requirements
- An example of a passive house in Queensland
- A case study of an airtight building
- What are the roles of the architect, consultant, mechanical engineer and builder?
Waste separation practices and data collection techniques are developing to provide solutions that improve our waste management and recovery rates.
Join the Insights into operational waste management webinar to hear how the NABERS Waste rating is raising industry standards and pushing for best practices. We examine NABERS Waste developments and illustrate its application with a leading case study, and deep dive into how waste contractors can provide quality data.
The presentations is followed by a panel and Q&A session to respond to technical questions.
Key learnings:
- How is NABERS Waste evolving and getting ready to expand to a range of sectors?
- How can we achieve successful waste separation and manage the separated waste streams?
- The role of industry metrics and why data quality is key.
- Opportunities for circularity and improved waste recovery
Speakers:
- Sara Rathborne, Sector Lead, NABERS
- Wayne Beard, Senior Facilities Manager, Knight Frank
- Jim McBurney, General Manager, ORG
- Sarah Smith, Consultant, Foresight Environmental
- Paul Cross, Project Manager, Sydney Waste Services (SWS)
The commissioning process is about quality control. Unfortunately, if it’s done too late, you miss the biggest opportunities. Focusing on the right stages of the process will get the biggest returns on investment. Air tightness testing is promoted by Green Star, but what do the different types of testing aim to reveal, and where do each belong in an effective commissioning process?
In this webinar, we will highlight the earlier stages of the timeline where the biggest gains are made and give you ways to focus your efforts for the greatest return.
Key areas to be covered:
- Commissioning process: how to improve outcomes
- How to interpret and use the Green Star credits for air tightness
- Guide specification for air tightness: a standardised approach to tendering
Join Sean Maxwell, Technical Manager, Pro Clima and President, AIVAA (Air Infiltration and Ventilation Association of Australia), to learn how to specify for airtight buildings and how to leverage the air tightness credits in Green Star.
Launching in October 2023, the Responsible Products Calculator and Database is an online tool for project teams to determine compliance with the Responsible Products credits (Responsible Structure, Envelope, Systems and Finishes) under Buildings v1.
Behind the calculator is a database, containing a list of products compliant with Product Certification Initiatives.
Products in this database have been awarded a Responsible Products Value (RPV) based on the initiatives they hold.
The challenge is clear – World-leading fitouts must be designed and built to be as close to fully circular as possible. As our built environment continues to grow, so does the need for healthy, resilient and positive fitouts inside our buildings for the benefit of the environment and the wellbeing of people. Now is the time to redefine what world class sustainability means for building fitouts.
Green Star Interiors was successful in opening up the market, with fitouts of all types having achieved a rating thanks to partners like Commonwealth Bank and Country Road Group. We have learned a lot, and we are ready to take it to the next level.
Around ~10% of global energy consumption comes from fitouts; they are key determinants of our health and wellbeing; and most importantly, 30% of all commercial building waste is fitout churn. We can do better.
Green Star Fitouts will be the next generation of Green Star – Interiors, and will be a simplified framework which will help applicants navigate how to create a sustainable fitout and get it certified through Green Star.
In this webinar, we take you through the proposed vision for the Green Star Fitouts tool.
We are currently in our Scoping Consultation phase in the development process of the new Green Star Fitouts tool. In this phase, we release a paper and survey to explain our proposed vision for the tool, and ask for your feedback, to ensure that we provide you with a tool which continues to be valuable to industry, and helps to drive sustainable fitouts across Australia.
Webinar 4: The proposed rating tool and the People and Nature categories
This final webinar in the series provides an outline of the People and Nature categories.
- The People category ensures a broad range of groups are included in the design and delivery of the precinct, and it is welcoming and supporting of all members of the community.
- The Nature category minimises impacts on existing nature and enhances opportunities to deliver new natural corridors and green spaces for positive biodiversity and wildlife outcomes.
This webinar is suitable for those looking to get an insight into the evolution of Green Star Communities. Urban planning and design professionals, architects, sustainability managers, government land organisation’s and local councils as well as current users of the tool are encouraged to attend.
Consultation on the credits and the Climate Positive Pathway in Green Star Communities v2 was open from 15 June to 15 August 2023.
