Agenda

Airtightness Masterclass

Thursday 22 October, 2026

12.30pm   Welcome and introduction

Moderator: Jim Ng, Technical Services and Innovation Lead, Green Building Council of Australia

12.32pm   Presentation: Examining the minimum expectations for airtightness requirements in Green Star Buildings

Airtightness is now a minimum expectation under Green Star Buildings, setting a new standard for improved building practices and performance outcomes. Hear more about how the rating framework aims to improve whole-building performance.

Speaker: Jim Ng, Technical Services and Innovation Lead, Green Building Council of Australia

12.50pm   Presentation: Blueprint for success with airtightness: documentation and design reviews that do something useful

This session will take you through the steps to navigate the submission documentation process and draw on project examples with measurable results. Hear more about commissioning testing and how to review any oversights in the process.

Speaker: Sean Maxwell, Scheme Manager, ATTMA Australia and New Zealand

1.30pm   Discussion groups: Common challenges and solutions in achieving airtightness

In smaller groups, participants will discuss some of the common challenges experienced and how these have been overcome. As a participant you’ll vote on the questions you’d like discuss on during this session ensuring that they are relevant to you.

1.45pm    Feedback from discussion groups

1.55pm     BREAK

2.05pm   Presentation: Unlocking the opportunities in airtightness

This session will explore how simple, cost-effective airtightness practices can deliver quality assurance, reduce risk and create opportunities for builders and trades to achieve better outcomes with confidence.

Speaker: Samantha Anderson, Senior Associate building Physics and Sustainability, Inhabit

2.30pm   In Conversation Case Study: Footscray Hospital

Join our speakers as they discuss the air tightness strategy and performance outcomes at Footscray  Hospital, highlighting  the role of building envelope performance in supporting energy efficiency, resilience and operational  outcomes within healthcare facilities.

Speaker: John Konstantakopoulos, Managing Director, Efficiency Matrix + Christopher Piperidis, Project Manager, Multiplex

2.50pm   BREAK

3.00pm   Presentation: Airtightness performance – understanding the spectrum

How do we design airtightness for the best possible performance? Hear more about overcoming challenges and learning from best practice.

Speaker: Joseph Cheung, Technical Manager, Efficiency Matrix

3.25pm   Panel discussion: Perspectives on delivering the design

Join us for a practical, multi perspective discussion on achieving high performance building airtightness. Hear real world lessons, common pitfalls and actionable strategies that you can apply directly to improve envelope performance to reduce leakage and deliver better project outcomes.
